My experience with 42Wolfsburg during the remote Piscine — Day 08
Day 08
It’s the second day of coding. The day started… with headache..
So I got up early just to get some painkillers. Luckily I have plenty of them at home. Will need them during the next weeks.
I got my second evaluation in the morning which was made by a peer of my tribe. I did pass all questions and now it got rated by moulinette. I passed it. Basically I had everything right except the last task. There must be something magic with these magic files. I could continue with C now cause it got unlocked for me but I will try to reach 100% for the first day. So I tried to correct my mistake and signed up for another evaluation in the evening.
I worked on Shell01 exercises while waiting for the evaluation of Shell00. I pushed through quite good until I got stuck at creating some random sh** file with some strange characters in it. Hello Marvin!
After all I had 4 evaluations and I have to say they differ quite a lot. While some of the guys are trying to help you others just try to fool you (I got marked an exercise wrong even if it was correct and I could explain in detail what I did and why I did it). You only have like 15 minutes for an evaluation so you should make sure that you don’t have another evaluation afterwards. Otherwise you will get in a rush. I will keep on opening only 15 minute slot with a 30 minute break afterwards.
You can smash your head against a wall! Well I can smash my head against the keyboard and see if I can run a random command
I had a lot of voice chats during the day. I think I helped a lot and others showed me what they had done so I saw that there are many solutions to all the exercises. Moulinette will accept all if the output is what they’re asking for. Make sure that this is the case!
I think I will finish Shell01 during the next day and will continue working on C (or probably getting stuck on fixing bugs on Shell01). Moulinette was down for the evening so I didn’t get my result yet.
There was a “ask the Staff meeting” but I didn’t participate. I discussed code with a peer. I think I will stick to this and don’t participate in such kind of meetings except I have some questions.
A friend of mine called me and I responded to him in English. That’s pretty cool for non native speakers as you will improve not only coding skills. I learned a lot about shell the last days. Especially typing the very basic stuff runs now without looking everything up in man. BTW you can “man man”. Funny, hugh?
I failed again in Shell00 so I will correct my mistake. Basically failing will be the way to succeed. I had to read some stuff about the exercise again and now I know not only how but why. Corrected it and signed up for the next round of of evaluation. I’m tired as fu** so I will try to defend my code tomorrow morning.
It’s almost midnight and I will call it a day. I was coding for about 16 h. A good thing about the remote Piscine is that you don’t spend any time driving back home. I literally have to go downstairs to fall to bed.

Tips for Day 08
- don’t decline an appointment. It will cost you points
- get familiar with some very basics of GIT and Shell
- They output has to be exactly what is in the exercise
