Day 05

Today is the first day of the weekend. Officially we should use it for recharging batteries.

I woke up a little bit late and looked into discord. There are some guys going crazy and try to prepare for Monday. A lot of coding related questions.

I said that I will talk a little bit about the differences of the Piscine. So Monday will start at 9:42 and we will get access to the first tasks. Our tribe decided to go through the first instructions together and see if everything works for everyone. We’re in this together and we live this motto.

You will get tasks every day at 9:42 but that’s basically all which is comparable to past Piscines. What’s new is that you don’t have to finish work until a certain deadline for the tasks. You decide when and what you wanna do. Even participating in the weekend tasks (so called Rushs) is not mandatory. Not even the Exams on friday. To be honest leaving out exams won’t be that great for your success. But who knows how they decide who passes the Piscine? I don’t know yet.

You can vote for a specific camper once a week which was very helpful so that staff can recognize that there is a special guy.

As you know we won’t have access to the school computers so exams will happen remote aswell. They have a special platform for that where we will get a specific and unique link to login. Exams start at 1 pm on fridays and last for four hours. You have different tasks to solve and you can run your code in this platform as often as you want. It will tell you if something is wrong. But when you finally hand it in and it is wrong then you’re done. You don’t know how many tasks you have to solve. Guys asked some more questions but staff just smiled. Will be a little bit of a surprise. The last exam will start at 9 pm and will last for eight hours.

The peer evaluations will be a bit different as well. You will meet in discord and open a new voice/video channel. This channel closes after a certain time to tidy up but you can take as much time as you need. The other stuff is almost the same like in a regular Piscine I guess. We will find out soon.

We’re all human. Yet again!

I wanted to add something. As you already noticed I’m from germany and I’m not a native speaker. We had a small talk in Discord about this and it made me pensive. When I speak about guys I include everyone. No matter what gender you are. I treat everyone equally. We’re all human.

There is not much to say what happened today. I will took a break and did some private stuff.

Tips for Day 05

  • Register for both the exams and the event 3h prior the event
  • Don’t overloead you calendar with peer evaluations. Take your time for every evaluation so you don’t be in a rush
  • “You will not be late!”
